Lake Padden Triathlon 2007

Wow.  Amazing performance after amazing performance in the water and on the roads and trails of Bellingham.

Gretchen - AG 4th and F23 in the Rec Div. Moving to the front line to announce to her fellow competitors "there will be no mercy for you today."

The rest of the field sees smiles now, wakes later.

Erin fresh from a 1-minute PR swim

Heidi in the middle of a perfect transition, about to crush the bike course on her new ride.

Sheila showing a long, perfect stride - uphill!

Ron, cleat cover debacle behind him, hammers out onto the bike course

Frank in chase

Frank flashing the cross technique. Passing people. Running.

Megan about to negotiate the tricky part of T1

On the bike and in the pedals in a flash, she hammers it up the climb

Gretchen's first ever transition - and she smoked it.

You go, girl. Check out Gretchen putting a strain on those bars!

Pam about to put that Cervelo to the test

A moment to reflect before the hammer comes down.

Kelly about to unleash it on the field.

Teamwork.

Chloe giving the teammates a boost

This is Challis' pneumonia recovery program. It's called 15th overall.

Erin lighting up another PR.

Final lap of the run course.

On her way to an age group 3rd and 18th overall.

Frank on his way to an age group victory and a serious overall placing.

200m from the finish, in 14th overall. In a stacked Bellingham field. Smoking.

The rock star.

Kelly, with jets on.

This is what a 12-minute PR feels like.

Mark looking very solid on no run training. Remember when he broke his leg training for Chuckanut a couple of years ago? What a comeback!

And this is why they call him the Mark Vortex. Because no matter what you do in the swim and on the bike, he will bring you back in the run.

The Mark Vortex in his return to competition --first triathlon in 3 years -- 6th overall.

Megan moving through the field on the run course.

Dropping the hammer

And making a case to be called The Megan Vortex. Check it out.

First time in the competitive division. And yes, that means she was sandbagging last year.

On her way to an age group 2nd.

That's what you get when you train hard and race with panache.

Working through GI issues coming out of T2, Ron on his way to a solid run and an age group 3rd.

Arlene with a smooth, strong run.

And an age group 3rd, maybe a minute out of 1st. Sweet!

Sharing his wisdom with the neophytes
